FOR a little over three months now, I have been on a transformative journey through the world of fitness. I have to laugh at myself because (1) I never thought I'd go out of my way to declare such a pursuit and (2) I feel like a cornball making a blog of it. In any case, I will say that the further I go with it, the more I appreciate and look forward to going to the gym and getting a workout in. Just to clarify, I am not trying to prepare for any bodybuilding competition, or anything like that; however, I would like to have more definition and form to my physique. I used to think that "working out" was for muscleheads or folks who were facing health issues. In my personal journey, I have found that it's quite therapeutic and carries so many other benefits. I noticed that my breathing is better and deeper, which links to my ability to sustain longer phrases when singing; I feel a greater sense of clarity and openness, spiritually, as well. Now I've always been down for meditation and yoga, so melding that in with my gym excursions definitely amplifies that level of being present and aware. Let's not forget about the fact that it brings a whole new element to my performance work. Energy, grace, agility, it all works in my favor when duty calls. That and I just got plain old tired of being read for so much younger. Not that its changed leaps, but I'd like to think that it at least stretches my physical age range. Every little bit helps, right?
